When I was in Africa, the people loved having their picture taken too - except they didn't ever smile! They wanted to look serious for their pictures!
here the people LOVE to smile which makes them so warm and friendly as a culture - the saddest faces are when they are begging - I've seen kids with the biggest, saddest, longest most forlorn face begging at my taxi window turn around and start laughing and joking with their friends a few meters away
